The Shelby County 9 -1 -1 Communications Center serves a population of approximately 48,000 people in 410 square miles with over 800 miles of roadways.  We are primary dispatch for the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, six village police departments, five EMS services, and eleven fire departments.   Also supported by this Center are the Common Please Court security deputies, the Lake Loramie Sate Park, and the Shelby County Park District Officers.

As a secondary service, we provide communications for the Shelby County dog warden, fourteen townships, the county Coroner and the County Sewer District, as well as back-up communications for the Emergency Management Agency, the Shelby County Highway Department, and Sidney Police Department.

We also provide various levels of service to the Shelby County Juvenile Court probation officers, the Common Pleas Court probation officer, Sidney Municipal Court probation officers, and state probation officers and parole officers.

The Shelby County 9 -1 -1 additionally provides a primary contact point for two railroads, five pipelines, six telephone companies, and two electric and one gas company.  

Many social services also have primary contact w with this office, including Children's Services, Victim's Services, American Red Cross, Mental Health, and New Choices, which is a women's shelter program.   The thirteen schools in Shelby County are also serviced with a severe weather and road warning service.

Communication officers are also charged with maintaining current warrant information and case report entries.

On a yearly basis, we answer over 43,000 calls for service.  Of those, we dispatch over 1,700 EMS and Fire service calls, and more than 900 motor vehicle accidents.   Almost, 9,000 9 -1 -1 calls are routed through our Center with 60% of those being from cellular telephones. We currently answer all wireless 911 calls for the entire County.

The Shelby County 9 -1 -1 Center is staffed with a total of eleven Communications Officers with a minimum of two on duty at any time.  Many of the Communications Officers are also volunteer Emergency Medical Technicians, Paramedics, Firemen, or Deputies.  There is also one technical supervisor and one personnel supervisor.  The Communication Offices total more then 90 years of experience.   The supervisors total more than 40 years of experience.
